Astor-Bannerman Wash Basin - The Story Behind The Product
15 years ago, in 1993, the very first product at Astor-Bannerman was created! This was a Height Adjustable Table, which can still be seen today in Birmingham City Library.

At this time, there were no wash basins available that were suitable for the needs of boys with Muscular Dystrophy. After being impressed with the Astor-Bannerman height adjustable tables she had seen, Philippa Harpin, formerly the National Occupational Therapy Advisor for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, approached us asking if there was something suitable we could create which would incorporate the height adjustable feature. As Muscular Dystrophy is a progressive, degenerative condition, which makes the person very weak, this height adjustable feature was ideal and as a result of this, we created our first height adjustable washbasin, which was a complete basin unit and named the ‘BASCOMP’. In 1997, this basin was then developed into the ABW2 (Astor-Bannerman Washbasin), which over the last 15 years, has been refined and is currently known as the ABW6.

The ABW is one of the first Astor-Bannerman products to be developed, and we are always very interested in new ideas and suggestions. If you would like any information, or perhaps have an idea of something that would be useful for you, please email us at sales@astorbannerman.co.uk
