Last week, Astor-Bannerman had the pleasure of meeting with the The Joshua Wilson Brian Tumour Charity, the Changing Places team and Aveso co-sponsors of the campaign OpeMed at the London Mencap Head Quarters.
At the meeting we made many exciting plans which included working together with campaigners to promote the need for more Changing Places. We hope that by doing this together we can really make a difference to the lives of thousands of disabled people across the UK in 2014.
Our Marketing Manager Wendy Payne, explains how she became involved with The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity
“I first met Dawn Fidler and her 13 year old son Joshua Wilson at the Disabled Living Kidz Up North Exhibition in 2012 when they were choosing a suitable bath for their home adaptations and an Astor-Bannerman bath was chosen and installed early 2013.
After staying in touch and witnessing the huge amount of support, goodwill and charity events organised by Dawn, I caught up with them again at Kidz Up North in November 2013. Everyone at the exhibition wanted to meet the ‘famous’ Joshua Wilson and the amount of love for the family and charity was simply overwhelming. They told me about the work they have done and money raised for their new Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity, which was launched in August 2013. Since then they have raised a staggering £53,680to date which will go towards supporting other children with brain tumours and post surgery disabilities like Josh.
Whilst at the exhibition Dawn and I got talking about the work we are doing with Changing Places as official co-sponsors when she told me she was planning on working to promote the need for Changing Places with the charity. Working together was the obvious next step so as Astor-Bannerman are co-sponsors of the Changing Places campaign, a meeting was arranged at Mencap in London and lots of exciting plans have been made. We’re hoping that this year we can really show how important these Changing Places facilities are to the lives of so many people like Josh and Dawn.”
