A Much-Needed Upgrade
The existing bathroom included a traditional bath with a manual hand-crank seat, which had become increasingly difficult for staff to use and less comfortable for residents. The care home team decided it was time for a modern, more practical solution.
Following discussions and a site survey, the Astor Compact Plus height-adjustable bath was selected for its ease of use, smooth powered transfers, and resident comfort.
To complement the upgrade, a Showersafe Gantry system was also installed, giving residents and carers more flexibility in day-to-day care and hair washing.

A Truly Person-Centred Project
The refurbishment of the bathroom became a home-wide effort. Residents were involved in choosing wallpaper and finishing touches, making the space feel familiar and welcoming.
Additional sensory features — such as mood lighting and music — have helped create a calming, spa-like environment.
“People want a bath now — the experience is better. They were queuing up when the new bathroom was opened.”
Staff have also noticed a marked difference in day-to-day tasks.
With the new equipment in place, carers can now work at a safe height, interact with residents at eye level, and reduce physical strain during bathing routines. Residents are able to bathe more independently, with staff close by to assist when needed.
The Outcome
The upgraded space has enhanced the overall bathing experience at Cantref. The room is now not only functional and safe, but also enjoyable — contributing to residents’ dignity, comfort, and wellbeing.
Astor Bannerman was pleased to support the home with this upgrade, handling the equipment installation and ensuring minimal disruption to daily routines.
