Crofton Springs Care Home in Cheltenham is a recently built care home operated by HC-One, designed to provide residential and dementia care for older people in a comfortable, supportive environment.

The home has been thoughtfully designed to feel welcoming and familiar for residents. Alongside its private en-suite bedrooms and shared lounges, the home includes spaces such as a cinema room, library, activity areas and landscaped gardens where residents can spend time with family and friends.

This attention to detail helps create a setting that feels more like home than an institution, supporting both independence and wellbeing for residents.

As part of the overall design, bathing provision was carefully considered throughout the building. To support assisted bathing across the home, nine Astor Compact Fixed Height Baths with Powered Seats were installed in both communal bathrooms and selected en-suite spaces.

Bathing Facilities Throughout the Home

Bathing is an important part of daily care in a residential environment. For many residents it is also an opportunity to relax, so having the right equipment and layout in place is essential.

At Crofton Springs, nine Astor Compact Fixed Height Baths were installed across the building. These are located in a combination of:

  • communal assisted bathrooms

  • selected en-suite bathrooms

This approach gives care staff flexibility when planning care routines, while also helping ensure residents have access to appropriate bathing facilities within the home.

The Astor Compact Fixed Height Bath

The Astor Compact Fixed Height Bath with Powered Seat is widely used in care homes where space and practicality are key considerations.

Its shorter length makes it suitable for en-suite bathrooms and smaller assisted bathrooms, while still providing a comfortable bathing experience for residents.

Key features include:

  • Powered seat for assisted transfers into the bath

  • Compact 1600mm  or 1700mm design suited to smaller bathrooms

  • Nursing armrests and lap strap for safety & stability

  • Obstacle detection sensor to stop the seat if an obstruction is detected

  • Smooth internal surfaces designed for comfort and easy cleaning

The powered seat helps carers assist residents safely while reducing manual handling during transfers.

    Supporting Residential and Dementia Care

Crofton Springs provides care for residents with a range of needs, including those living with dementia. In these environments, equipment must be reliable, easy to operate and comfortable for residents. For residents living with dementia having a familiar and homely environment is key, delivered beautifully at Crofton Springs through their ensuite rooms.

By installing multiple assisted baths across the home, Crofton Springs ensures that residents can receive personal care in a setting that is both safe and dignified. The Astor Compact bath design also works well in en-suite settings, allowing bathing provision to be incorporated without requiring large bathroom spaces, offering dignified and private bathing and prolonging supported independence.
