Camp JoJo is an accessible camping charity providing families with children with additional needs the opportunity to enjoy a summer camping and educational experience in an inclusive environment.

Based at Nags Head Farm in Cumbria, the accessible campsite has been designed to help families enjoy the outdoors together, with facilities and support that help remove some of the barriers that can make traditional camping difficult for children with additional needs.

With the ethos ‘Everyone Can’ at the heart of Camp JoJo’s approach, accessible hygiene facilities are an important part of creating an environment where every family can enjoy their camping experience with greater comfort, dignity and independence.

Accessible Facilities for Every Family

As part of the shower block development at Nags Head Farm, Astor Bannerman supplied and installed two specialist hoist systems within dedicated hygiene rooms.

The two hygiene rooms were designed to provide accessible personal care facilities for campers who require additional support with transfers, helping families enjoy their time at the campsite without personal care needs becoming a barrier to participation.

Working within the modular construction of the shower block, Astor Bannerman installed the hoist systems directly into the timber frame ceiling structure, providing a practical transfer solution within each room.

What’s Inside: Our Specification

Within the two accessible hygiene rooms at Camp JoJo, we installed:

  • 2x Astor OT200 Ceiling Hoist Systems – providing safe and practical transfer support within each hygiene room.
  • Integrated hoisting provision – the systems were incorporated into the shower block design to support accessible personal care for campers.
  • Ceiling-fixed installation – both hoist systems were securely fixed into the timber frame of the modular building.

The installation of two Astor OT200 Ceiling Hoist Systems provides dedicated transfer support within the shower block, helping families access the hygiene facilities during their stay at Nags Head Farm.

Hoisting Within a Modular Building

The shower block at Nags Head Farm is constructed using a timber frame modular building, requiring the hoist systems to be carefully integrated into the building structure.

Astor Bannerman installed both Astor OT200 systems as ceiling-fixed solutions, ensuring the equipment was incorporated into the hygiene rooms as part of the overall facility design.

This demonstrates how specialist hoisting can be incorporated into different building types and accessible environments, including modular camping facilities.
