Overview
Westfield Stratford Shopping Centre is one of London’s largest and most popular retail and leisure destinations, attracting millions of visitors annually.
Committed to providing an inclusive environment for all customers, the centre recognised the need to install a fully compliant Changing Places toilet facility to better support visitors with complex disabilities and their carers.
Products Specified & Installed
Astor Bannerman worked closely with Westfield Stratford’s management and design teams to specify and install a Changing Places toilet that meets the latest UK standards, including BS8300 and Changing Places Consortium requirements. The facility is conveniently located in Unit G29 on the upper level, ensuring easy access for shoppers.
The facility includes all mandatory Changing Places equipment:
-
Peninsular Toilet with Clear Space
-
Emergency alarm, grab rails, wide-access door, and clear signage
All equipment was selected for durability, ease of use, and long-term maintenance, supporting Westfield Stratford’s commitment to inclusive facilities.

The Importance of Changing Places in Retail Spaces
Standard accessible toilets are often insufficient for people with profound and multiple disabilities. Changing Places toilets provide the space, equipment, and privacy needed to make visits to busy retail centres possible and comfortable.
This installation reflects Westfield Stratford’s dedication to ensuring all visitors, regardless of ability, can enjoy the shopping experience with dignity and independence.
