Launch of the Astor Invincible – the first Changing Table designed specifically for use within a Changing Place Toilet. One of many new innovative products launched as part of Astor Bannerman’s new growth era.
A big year for expansion within Astor Bannerman, despite the devastating impact of Covid-19. A move to new, bigger premises aptly named “The Elephant Works”, and at the end of the year, taking over the OpeMed ceiling hoist brand and UK operations.
Mark Colebrook joined as Managing Director of Astor Bannerman’s UK Operations, to lead the further expansion and innovation of the company.
Astor Bannerman rebranded sister company, Active Bathing, as Astor Bannerman Care, embracing it as an integral part of the Astor Bannerman brand and Group.
2 years later, growth continued as Aveso Ltd was created. A platform set up between Astor Bannerman & OpeMed to sponsor the Changing Places campaign and lead on the installation of Changing Places facilities. The campaign evolved from the need to raise awareness and encourage public venues to install toilets which are accessible to those with additional needs.
Growth continued for the company and in 2011 Astor Bannerman became the main investor in Beka Hospitec. The Astor Bannerman (Medical) Ltd Group was born.
In 2009, the sister company Active Bathing was born- providing safe and efficient bathing solutions for care homes and long term care environments. This led to the growth of both the premises and the Astor Bannerman team.
In 2002, Astor-Bannerman became the sole UK distributor for the German care and treatment manufacturers, Beka Hospitec. This enabled Astor-Bannerman to grow further in bathing and care markets and become the leading provider of UK Social Services Care Equipment.
In 2001, Astor-Bannerman grew and moved to Gloucestershire where they began to build on their excellent reputation for innovative design and manufacture. Solid relationships were formed and the team focussed on assisted bathing, hoisting and changing equipment.
Astor Bannerman was then approached by Muscular Dystrophy UK to develop a height-adjustable basin, suitable for people with Muscular Dystrophy. The ABW Wash Basin soon became key to the growth of the company and has evolved with Astor Bannerman over the years.
In 1993, two friends from Oxfordshire (with a passion for technology and mechanics) were asked to make a height-adjustable kitchen table by Muscular Dystrophy UK. This challenge developed into a vision of producing solutions which would help support disabled people and their carers. And so, Astor Bannerman was born.
