A Purpose-Built Building, Delivered by Healthmatic
The new Changing Places is located just off the promenade in a dedicated Healthmatic-built public toilet block. The structure itself has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate both high footfall and specialist accessibility needs, providing a secure, clean, and comfortable space that blends in with the surrounding area.
Inside, the facility meets all Changing Places requirements, including:
-
A ceiling track hoist for safe transfers
-
A peninsular toilet with access from both sides
-
A privacy screen and appropriate space for wheelchair users and carers to move around safely.
The design not only complies with the latest BS8300 and Document M standards—it also reflects a strong commitment to inclusion and thoughtful public infrastructure.
A Community Milestone: Official Opening by the Mayor
The facility was officially opened in a ceremony attended by the Mayor of Weston-super-Mare, representatives from the local council, and members of the community.
This public opening was more than a ribbon-cutting—it was a powerful recognition of the need for inclusive infrastructure and the value of making public spaces truly accessible.
“The big changing places at WSM beach are incredibly spacious and well-designed, offering plenty of room for everyone.” – Leo
