About the Location
Kingswood Playing Fields is a key green space in the local community, offering open playing fields, a new pavilion, and now — thanks to this project — a Changing Places toilet. This addition means individuals who are unable to use standard accessible toilets can still visit the site, knowing there’s a safe and dignified facility available.
The Changing Places toilet is situated within the newly built modular unit, close to parking and amenities, making it easily accessible to all.
Inside the Changing Places Facility
Installed to full BS 8300 and Changing Places Consortium standards, this facility includes:
- Astor OT200 Ceiling Track Hoist – Providing smooth and effortless transfers, this hoist ensures safe movement between the toilet, changing table, and wheelchair.
- Astor Invincible Changing Table – A robust, height-adjustable adult-sized changing bench designed for comfort and safety.
- Astor ABW-CP Height Adjustable Wash Basin – Allowing users to adjust the basin height for easier accessibility.
- KwickScreen Privacy Screen – Offering a discreet and dignified space for changing.
- Peninsular Toilet and Support Rails – Enhancing safety and ease of use for individuals and their carers.
Building Inclusive Spaces in Public Parks
Outdoor recreation spaces like Kingswood Playing Fields often lack suitable facilities for people with complex needs. This Changing Places toilet helps break down that barrier, making the site more inclusive and usable for all families.
By working alongside Healthmatic, Astor Bannerman has helped ensure this space is not only accessible but welcoming to every visitor — regardless of their personal care requirements.
Supporting Inclusive Tourism
At Astor Bannerman, we’re proud to support inclusive public design through turnkey Changing Places projects across the UK. From heritage sites to parks and transport hubs, we work closely with contractors, councils, and architects to ensure these vital facilities are thoughtfully integrated from the start.
We’re proud to have played a key role in the Kingswood Playing Fields Changing Places toilet, and we thank Rob, our Project Manager, for his dedication and hard work in bringing this space to life.
