Astor Bannerman’s Tarnia Venning-Rhodes is stepping well outside her comfort zone – and straight onto hot coals – to raise money for bereaved children and their families.

Tarnia plays a vital role in building relationships with Occupational Therapists, Housing Officers, DFG Managers, surveyors, and project managers across the region. Her goal is simple but powerful – to help deliver life-changing, accessible bathrooms for children and adults with complex needs.

Now, she’s taking that same determination into a whole new challenge: a charity firewalk to raise funds for the Children’s Bereavement Centre, which provides vital emotional and therapeutic support to children who have lost a loved one.

“I know of young children who have lost parents and one of my cricket team is a lead paramedic who is now training to support bereaved children after seeing first hand the loss of loved ones being taken too soon from their families and children. Knowing that I have helped in someway is nothing compared to the challenge they have to deal with.”

About the Children's Bereavement Centre

The Children’s Bereavement Centre is run by a committed team of friendly, supportive and professional people who are passionate about helping children and young people to cope with the grieving process brought on by the death or terminal illness diagnosis that has a prognosis of a year or less for survival of someone close.

Although it is a natural part of life, the loss of someone close can be a distressing and overwhelming experience, especially for children and young people.

The Centre is open to children aged 3 to 18 and we offer a welcoming and safe environment for them and their families to receive the help and guidance they need at one of the most devastating times in their lives.

It’s really easy to refer to their services which are offered completely free of charge.
